Thank you to everyone who joined us for Giants of Justice, 2026. The room was full of the amazing faith leaders, organizers and community members (and those who are all of the above) who make up the organization that we call CLUE. This year we honored three movement leaders who have truly shown what it means to build the Beloved Community: The Godmothers of the Disappeared, Myron Wollin, and the duo of UTLA and SEIU Local 99.
Drawing from the history of the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo in Argentina, the Godmothers of the Disappeared have met every Tuesday since June 2025 in front of LA’s Metropolitan Detention Center. This interfaith group led by women clergy members marches, prays and sings every week, in solidarity with those who are currently being held in the basement of the Federal Building.
Myron Wollin, is the President of the Long Beach Grey Panthers and a leader of the Temple Israel Social Action committee in Long Beach. As a leader of the Grey Panthers, Myron helps provide education and advocacy on Older Adult issues in social and economic justice. He has been a crucial part of many labor, healthcare and housing fights in Long Beach, including the unionization of Hotel Maya.
Standing at the intersection of labor and education movements, UTLA and SEIU Local 99 work to improve working and learning conditions in our communities. They bargain for teachers and education workers’ benefits with LAUSD, this month securing historic wins through ceaseless negotiation with the district. These two unions help make sure that those who are educating the children in our city are compensated fairly for this invaluable work.
