We urge California legislators to support SB-6. In response to the current executive attacks on undocumented individuals and communities, SB-6 will provide legal services to be extended to all individuals who are in removal proceedings who do not currently fall under the qualifications for legal representation.
We believe that all individuals should have access to the due process of law, regardless of immigration status. The passing of this bill would allow for the basic human right, in correspondence with the American ideal, of access to adequate legal representation for a fair and just trial to be given to all individuals who currently reside in the state of California.
We urge California legislators to support this bill in order to give the full due process of law for every individual who lives in California. We urge legislators to consider the values at which this state, and nation, are based upon by giving equal access to protection and legal representation without discrimination. The belief that every individual has the right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” cannot be made possible until every individual has the right to legal protection and representation, especially in respect to their immediate place of residence, the state of their family, and their overall freedom and well being.
We ask that you join with Senator Hueso in seeing this act as both urgent and absolutely necessary for the “immediate preservation of public peace, health, or safety within Article IV of the California Constitution”. Without SB-6, we cannot uphold California's dedication to the overall pursuit of public good and protection.
By signing CLUE's petition in support of SB-6 you are committing to and agreeing with CLUE's current stance on the bill as stated above.
