Central American refugee children face so many challenges as they arrive in the US. Finding school supplies doesn’t have to be one of them.
In 2015, CLUE's UCARE (Unaccompanied Central American Refugee Empowerment) program received a generous one-time grant to buy backpacks and fill them full of school supplies for refugee kids. Hundreds of Central American children and their families benefited from this back-to-school celebration.
One year later, most of those refugee children are preparing for school again. In fact, Los Angeles has opened its arms to many more children due to continued unrest in Central America. You can help us to empower any number of these young scholars by donating a backpack, with or without school supplies inside!
The backpacks will be distributed through the same wonderful agencies and organizations that helped us reach the kids last year-- Public Counsel, CARECEN, Esparanza Immigrant Rights Project, Immigrant Defenders Law Center, KIND, and LAUSD. CLUE will manage the drive, collecting and distributing the supplies.
